Arturo Ruiz is a true entrepreneur.
As a young weaver he was one of the first Zapotec to experiment with yarns other than 100% wool. Through his contacts in Mexico City Arturo started to weave with Mohair Wool blends to differentiate himself from other weavers in the village. Mohair is a boutique yarn with a very soft hand and a touch of sheen that lets the rug enjoy the sunlight more than the matte finish of 100 % wool yarns. Mohair yarns take a special skill and care to weave as its "slippery", compared to 100% wool taking longer to weave.
His use of experimental weaving. and Contemporary designs, such as Teco Largo Jewel, set him apart from traditional Zapotec styles. His original Teco design is now utilized freely within the village as an homage to his originality.
Teco Largo Jewel measures 71"x 110", not including fringe, and is woven in a luxurious Mohair Wool Blend.
